 The Downland Practice

GP News ( posted on Feb 20, 2018 )

February/March 2018

Notice to Patients

It is with some sadness that we must announce the retirement of Dr Andrew Wardle and Dr Diane Finnigan and the resignation of Dr Chloë Evans.

Dr Wardle has been a partner in the practice for 24 years and has worked at both Chieveley and at our branch site in Compton.  His sound clinical skills and encyclopaedic knowledge have made him a favourite amongst patients and pub quiz teams alike.  Dr Wardle is retiring to spend more time with his growing family.  His last working day will be Thursday 8th March 2018.  I am sure you will join the practice in wishing Dr Wardle and long, healthy and happy retirement.

Dr Chloë Evans has been a partner at the practice for just 6 years but in that time she has made a huge impression on patients and staff alike. Dr Evans has decided to take a break from a permanent full-time partner GP position and will be commencing a short-term GP post in the Shetland Islands in April. Her last working day will be Friday 23rd March 2018.  I am sure you will join us in wishing Dr Evans every success in her new placement in Scotland.

Dr Diane Finnigan, one of our salaried GPs, decided to retire from General Practice and left us at the end of January 2018. Dr Finnigan, known to many of our patients as our skin specialist GP, is continuing to work at the Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust in the Dermatology Department. She also plans to spend more time with her family.

Despite our sadness with our GP departures do have some good news!  We are delighted to announce that Dr Claire Ezra has given birth to a healthy baby boy. Dr Ezra plans to return in August 2018 and her maternity leave is being covered by one of our locums, Dr Ifeoma Monye.

We are also pleased to have appointed two new experienced GPs as our new partners; Dr Sally Lewis will be taking over Dr Wardle’s patients and Dr Evans' patients will be split between Dr Ezra and Dr Sarah Morton.

Dr Finnigan’s patients are currently being cared for by excellent locums; Dr Luke Brown and Dr Hannah Williamson until later in the year when a decision to recruit a further permanent GP will be considered.

Our Compton patients can rest assured that we will continue to offer GP surgeries at Compton once our new GPs have familiarised themselves with our systems and processes.
