Pharmacy/Dispensary Changes 2018


We have altered our dispensary and pharmacy to improve dispensing services to all of our patients. We would like to thank patients for their understanding during the period of disruption that these changes caused.


The new pharmacy and dispensary is now operating from inside the surgery, as before. Compton surgery is still operating as usual.


Opening Times:

Monday to Friday from 8:30 -13:00, 14:00-18:30

The Pharmacy is closed for lunch between 13:00-14:00

 Pharmacy services:

  • Dispensing all types of prescriptions- private, dental and veterinary.
  • Medicine Use Review  is an opportunity for you to discuss with our pharmacist any issues you may have with your medicines. This service is free and will be held in a private consultation room. Medicines advice will include:
    • Dosage and timing queries
    • Advice on Side Effects of medication
    • Advice on Medication Interactions 
  • New Medicine Service is for people who have received their first prescription for a medicine to treat any of the following conditions: 
    • Asthma or other lung conditions such as emphysema
    • Type 2 Diabetes
    • High blood pressure
    • Conditions where you take a medicine to control your blood clots.

There will be 2 appointments (by phone or face to face) with our pharmacist in the first month. She will check on how you are getting on with your new medicine. It is also an opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns. This improves understanding of your new medicine and empowers you to manage your condition and medication in a better way.

  • Travel Advice
    •  Anti-malarial medication- our pharmacist can often supply antimalarial medications to you, without you first having to see a Doctor or Nurse. Often you can collect them on the same day.
    • We are well-stocked on essential travel items (e.g. Sterile needle pack , sun screen and insect repellent)
    • If you purchase anti-malarial medicines from us, you will receive 10% discount on a range of travel items
  • Counseling on emergency contraception and providing free emergency contraception for women of all age groups, provided that certain NHS criteria are fulfilled.
  • Minor Illness advice
    • Our trained medicine counter assistant and pharmacist  will provide medical advice and recommend appropriate medications for relieving your symptoms.
    • We respect your privacy, please let us know if you like to discuss your problem in a consultation room.
  • Private Flu Vaccination 
    • This service starts on 1 Oct every year. It costs £12 per injection.
    • Our accredited pharmacist can give flu jabs to anyone from the age of 9 years of age . Booking is advisable but not compulsory. Please ring to check that the accredited pharmacist is on duty.

The pharmacy stocks a wide range of good bedside medicines. We can also order what you need if they are not in stock. Many customer orders can be collected in two working days. Most medicines can be available in the next working day. You will be informed by text messaging when your special order is ready to collect.
